I can’t possibly be the only one who sees something wrong with this advertisement. I found this ad in a Brides magazine that I’m subscribed to. (Gimme a break. I’m a wedding photographer.)

The way I figure it, one of two things is going on here.

1. Simon G. has the world’s worst marketing department.

2. Consumers are painfully stupid and this kind of marketing is actually working.

It would seem that this ad is attempting to help consumers justify exceeding their budget to buy one of these rings. But who the hell gets married thinking, “I better do this right because this is the only first wedding I’ll get to have”. Furthermore, who gets divorced and looks back really fondly on their past marriages, as if they were some kind of vacation or something. Divorce means failure. Who gets married planning on failure?
