I’m not very good at these things, so bear with me.
My name is William Petruzzo. I’m a motivated, active Christian and I’m a growing photographer trying to find a voice and career in a confusing industry.
What I believe
I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, that he is God and that his work on the cross alone is able to save sinners from hell. I believe that it’s completely by faith that we accept the gift of God in Jesus Christ and that our works have no bearing on salvation whatsoever. However, I also believe that good works are a necessary fruit of salvation and without them, faith claims fall under suspicion.
I am reformed in my thought because I believe this is the foundational teachings of scripture. Some people call it Calvinism. I don’t care either way for the title.
I believe that human beings are at a complete loss. Being fallen in all of our parts and at enmity with God from birth, we lack the capacity to do any spiritual good. I believe that God, however, is sovereign and gracious. That he has elected from before any creation, men and women from every nation, tribe and tongue for salvation. And, that he elected them apart from any good or bad they may one day do.
I believe that in spite of our fallen nature, God in Jesus Christ, came and died to atone for the sins of everyone who would believe in him. I believe that God’s elected people, by the help of his Holy Spirit, inevitably choose to accept his gift of grace and by the same Holy Spirit are kept forever from fully falling away. However, I also believe that God’s primary instrument in calling his elected people is the church, making evangelistic efforts absolutely crucial.
Where I came from
I’ve grown up near Washington, DC in a loving and relatively stable family. I grew up with a love for visual arts as I absorbed my father’s photographic hobby. Although raised Catholic, I stopped practicing as an early teenager. I soon donned the title of agnostic and atheist, although never fully understood the concepts and likely never truly believed them.
At seventeen I was presented with the Gospel by a gracious and patient group of college students. I gave up my fight against Jesus Christ soon after and began to serve as a youth leader at a local church. After some time of wandering from church to church, I now find myself serving at Bay Area Community Church near Annapolis, Maryland.
Where I’m Going
Short answer, I have no real idea.
Slightly longer answer, I would like one day to serve as a teacher or pastoral figure in a church body. However, I also share an appreciation for visual arts and may enjoy pursuing that career path as well. But in the Spirit of James chapter five, I make no definite claims. Whatever the Lord wills.
