Proverbs 14:12:

There is a way that seems right to a man,
but its end is the way to death.

Here seems an excellent argument for studying and understanding and knowing what the scriptures say. Some people like to chalk off the Word as inferior to abstract spiritual experience. Movements of the conscience even.

But scripture makes it clear that the way that seems right to us, may lead us straight to death.

In fact, before believing, my way seemed right and I was content in it. I have to thank God that he saw to it that I would understand differently and be saved.
