Psalm 81:8-10:
"Hear, O my people, while I admonish you!
O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
There shall be no strange god among you;
you shall not bow down to a foreign god.
I am the LORD your God,
who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it."
Can you hear the almost dumbfounded, duh-like tone? "uh, hello? I’m the LORD and I brought you out of Egypt–having other gods around is ludicrous." But the point is clear.
If we would only stop looking into our broken cisterns, our little-gods for satisfaction and instead listen to the Lord we’d hear him say, "Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it." Unfortunately, much of the time our lives are too fast paced and far to well structured to remember this simple truth.
If we’ll trust his words with our hearts, and live that trust in action ("Open your mouth wide…") then he would gladly satisfy our hearts.
I’m gonna shoot for that.
